Albanian political parties in Montenegro are preparing for a formal merger into a single political entity, the Albanian Forum, aiming to create for the first time a unified political organization of Albanians at the state level.
Citing unofficial sources, Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG) reported that the agreement envisages the merger of the Albanian Alternative, the Democratic League of Albanians and the Albanian National Union.
According to the report, the decision to merge comes after the political success achieved through joint action, including absolute power in the municipality of Tuzi, the record result at the state level with two mandates of deputies and two positions in the Government of Montenegro, as well as the commendable results of the ministers and representatives of the Forum in the executive branch.
Sources close to the negotiations said that an additional impetus for full unification came after recent public opinion polls, which showed a significant increase in support for the Forum even in Ulcinj, where it has become one of the most powerful Albanian political options.
According to the same sources, one of the Forum's main political objectives is to take over the leadership of the Ulcinj municipality after the upcoming elections.
RTCG also reported that it is "almost certain" that the leader of the merged organization will be Nik Gjeloshaj, while Ivan Ivanaj and Ferhat Dinosha have also made important contributions to the unification process.
Interlocutors involved in the process assessed this development as the greatest political consolidation of the Albanian factor in Montenegro since the country's restoration of independence./ AA
