Last night, the Diaspora Summit took place in Tirana.
The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, awarded the title of "Knight of the Order of Skanderbeg" to former national team captain, Lorik Cana.
In his speech, Cana appeared emotional, as he expressed that during his life he has done everything to make Albanians around the world proud, writes Balkanweb.
"When we are in front of a panel and we have our people gathered, who have stood out and made an extraordinary contribution to us. We have played with stadiums full of hundreds of millions of people who have seen us. Today I accept it not only on my behalf, but on the behalf of my family. To my father, Agim, my grandparents, Gani, my uncle, to everyone. This dough has taken advantage of us."
"We Kosovars were forced to emigrate. At this Diaspora Summit, I return as a Kosovo Albanian. We emigrated and we tried to do good, not only for our families, but we tried to raise the honor and name of Albanians as much as possible."
"I believe this has been the greatest pride that I and my family have experienced. Having a tool like football, you understand that the responsibility is great. I have been retired for 10 years. When I tell people this, they laugh. It is a whole life, where love and contribution to the homeland are never lacking. We have tried to build our community," said Cana.
