Liverpool manager Arne Slot has reacted to the tragic death of Diogo Jota.
Slot was Jota's coach for a season, and through a long message he also shared his last conversation with him.
Arne Slot's full reaction, without any interruptions:
"What can you say? What can anyone say at a time like this, when the shock and pain are so intense and raw? I wish I had the right words, but I know I don't."
"My first thoughts are not those of a football coach. They are the thoughts of a father, son, brother and uncle, and belong to the family of Diogo and André Silva, who have experienced an unimaginable loss."
"My message to them is very clear - you will never walk alone. The players, staff and all the supporters of Liverpool Football Club are with you, and from what I have seen today, the same can be said for the wider football family."
“This is not just a response to a tragedy. It is also a reaction to the kindness of the people involved and the respect that so many people have for these boys as individuals and for the family as a whole.”
"For us as a club, the feeling of shock is complete. Diogo was not just our player. He was dear to all of us. He was a teammate, a colleague, a work friend - and in all of these roles, he was special."
"I could say a lot about what he brought to our team, but the truth is that anyone who has seen Diogo play has seen it for themselves: hard work, desire, commitment, quality, goals. The essence of what a Liverpool player should be."
"The last time we spoke, I congratulated Diogo on his Nations League victory and wished him luck with his upcoming wedding. In many ways, it was a dream summer for Diogo and his family – which makes it all the more devastating that it ended like this."
"When I first came to the club, one of the first songs I learned was the one our fans sang for Diogo. I hadn't worked with him before, but I knew straight away that if Liverpool fans - who have seen so many great players over the years - had a special song for Diogo, then he must have exceptional quality."
"My condolences go out to Diogo's wife, Ruten, their three wonderful children, and to Diogo's parents and André."
"When the time is right, we will celebrate Diogo Jota's life, remember his goals and sing his song. For now, we will remember him as a unique man and mourn his loss. He will never be forgotten."
