Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have included an additional clause as part of the deal to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.
Leverkusen have agreed a fee of £30m, plus £5m in bonuses, to sign the 22-year-old centre-back. Quansah will become Erik ten Hag's second signing as Leverkusen manager following the signing of goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Brentford.
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool will use the funds raised to make a "significant" bid for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
As for Leverkusen, the club has paid a record fee to sign Quansah, who will replace Jonathan Tah, who is expected to move to Bayern Munich.
Although it is a significant transfer, Liverpool have managed to negotiate an additional clause that may surprise fans. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool have included a buy-back clause for Quansah.
Liverpool will be able to activate this clause after a certain (unspecified) date, paying a predetermined amount to bring the defender back. Leverkusen will be obliged to accept the offer, but Quansah himself will have the right to reject the contract and stay in Germany, or choose another club if he wishes.
Quansah made just 13 Premier League appearances last season and was largely out of Arne Slot's plans during the first half of the campaign. He made a few appearances at right-back due to the absences of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez, but was mainly used in cup games.
Now, Quansah becomes the youngest English player to play in the Bundesliga, following names like Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham and Eric Dier.
This is the third transaction between Liverpool and Leverkusen this summer, after Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz were transferred in opposite directions for a combined fee of £129.5 million.
Wirtz's transfer, which was initially agreed for £100m, could rise to £116m with bonuses - making it the most expensive transfer in the history of an English club.
