Liverpool are looking for a new striker, and the main target is Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.
The former Real Sociedad striker seems equally desperate to make the move to Anfield, but so far no deal has been reached.
Newcastle are reportedly demanding £150m to sell Isak, who has gone on strike at the Premier League club.
So far, Liverpool have not made any significant moves towards this figure, which could lead to them looking for alternatives.
According to Paul Gorst of the Liverpool Echo (via Empire of the Kop), Liverpool should look to Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez:
"How keen is Atletico Madrid to test their stance on Julian Alvarez? The Argentina international would be an ideal alternative to Isak, if the likely admission is that the 25-year-old is unattainable. Alvarez scored 17 goals for Los Rojiblancos last season in La Liga and offers tactical flexibility, international class and a willingness to work off the ball. There are few viable Plan Bs for the Reds, but the former Manchester City man ticks the boxes more than most."
Alvarez had a brilliant season at RiyadhAir Metropolitano and started the new campaign in similar fashion, with a free kick goal against Espanyol last weekend.
Atletico value him extremely highly and are clear that they will not consider offers until the end of the summer transfer window.
While this could be bad news for Liverpool (if they had planned a move), it is good news for Barcelona.
The Catalans have identified Alvarez as their ideal target to replace Robert Lewandowski next summer, although they would have to pay well over €100m to get him from Los Colchoneros./Express newspaper/
