Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes once again emphasizes that the German runners-up want to continue counting on the game organizer, Granit Xhaka, for the new season.

The 32-year-old Switzerland captain has recently been linked with several clubs, Gazeta Express reports.

While interest from Saudi Arabia is said to have faded, Premier League newcomers Sunderland and Mourinho's club Fenerbahçe continue to show interest in the midfielder.

But Simon Rolfes has spoken clearly on the matter: "Granit is a very important player for us - for the team and for the club. Our main interest is to keep him," the Leverkusen manager said at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, where the team is currently in a training camp.

He added: "Of course there is interest in him, we need to talk to the player to know what his ambitions are. But it is clear: only if it is a 'win-win' situation will there be a transfer."
Rolfes added: "We have three more years of contract with the player and we are very happy with him. We have big goals for the coming years. Therefore, a transfer can only happen if it is in the best interests of all parties. We have to wait. But our goal is for Granit to stay with us."
Xhaka himself has not yet publicly expressed his goals and plans.
