Bayern Munich defender Josip Stanisic is unhappy with the behaviour of Real Madrid player Antonio Rudiger, calling it "unacceptable" after a violent clash in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final. The Croatian defender got involved in a duel with Rudiger after claiming a foul.
In the first half, Stanisic fell during the action that led to Kylian Mbappe's goal, which equalized for Real Madrid in the double confrontation. Bayern players called for a foul, but it was not awarded, while Stanisic was left lying on the ground. According to him, Rudiger approached him and insulted him twice, as he stated to the German magazine "Kicker".
After the match, Stanisic said he did not want to go into details, but stressed that Rudiger's behavior was unacceptable: "You can ask him, maybe he is man enough to accept it. I don't want to create animosity and I don't take it personally, because these things happen in the heat of the moment, but it is not acceptable."
The incident comes just over a month after Rudiger was heavily criticised for a tackle on Diego Rico in a match against Getafe, where he was alleged to have hit him deliberately. Rudiger himself later stated that if he had wanted to hurt him, he “would still be lying on the ground”. Meanwhile, Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa defended him, calling him an example for young players.
The incident in Munich was part of a tense end to the European tour, with Arda Guler being sent off for protesting after the match.
