The Macedonian Trade Unions' Union (LSM) will hold a workers' protest in Skopje today, demanding an increase in the minimum wage to 600 euros and a linear increase in all other wages to at least 6.000 denars. The protest, according to the LSM announcement, will start at 12:05 in front of the "Rabotnički dom".

The movement route will start from the LSM building on "Mirche Acev" street in the center, will continue along "Philip II of Macedonia", "11 Tetori", "Dimitrie Čupovski", "Dame Gruev" streets and "VMRO" boulevard, and will end on "Ilinden" boulevard.

A stop is planned in front of the Parliament, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Government, where LSM representatives and workers will send their main demands and messages.

The decision to take to the streets, as previously informed by the head of the LSM Slobodan Trendafillov, comes after the government and employers ignored and failed to meet the union's demands. They envisage a legal harmonisation of the minimum wage to only 1.667 denars, an amount that, according to the Union, does not even cover the increased value of the union's consumer basket. Transportation has been organized for participants from other cities.

We recall that LSM held several protests in February, blocking key institutions. On February 17, LSM held a blockade in front of the Government, while after the large protest on January 28, which demanded an increase in the minimum wage and all other wages in the country, LSM held blockades of Parliament and the Chamber of Commerce. LSM bases its demand for a wage increase on the increase in the cost of living and the increase in the value of the union's consumer basket.
