The Constitutional Court has declared invalid the March 6 decree of President Vjosa Osmani dissolving the Kosovo Assembly.
According to the court's decision, MPs have 34 days to elect a new President, otherwise the Assembly will be automatically dissolved and early elections will be organized within 45 days.
The Chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, stated that the Constitutional Court's decision has brought necessary clarity at an important institutional moment for the country.
Abdixhiku emphasized that the LDK fully respects this decision and considers it as a guide for further political actions.
According to him, the decision does not create an advantage for any party, but rather returns the process to the Assembly and gives MPs an additional deadline to elect the President.
He underlined that the main responsibility at this stage falls on the parliamentary majority, which, according to him, has had the time and opportunity to conclude the process. “Without the votes of the majority, this process cannot be completed,” Abdixhiku said.
The LDK leader added that such issues should be resolved through political agreements and not through imposition, emphasizing that the President should be a unifying figure who guarantees unity and institutional balance.
He announced that LDK remains ready to contribute to any serious effort for a solution, but will not serve as "an alibi for anyone's failures."
"In this spirit, LDK remains ready to contribute to any serious effort for a solution that guarantees stability and normal functioning of institutions. But, at the same time, it will not become an alibi for anyone's failures," Abdixhiku wrote.
At the same time, Abdixhiku assessed that Vjosa Osmani's actions were in the function of preserving constitutional order and avoiding an institutional vacuum, adding that the verdict did not find any constitutional violations.
"At the same time, LDK considers that the actions of the President of the Republic, including her decree, have been in the function of preserving the constitutional order and avoiding an institutional vacuum, in an unclear legal situation. The Constitutional Court's judgment, in addition to not finding any constitutional violation, offers the final interpretation on this issue, an interpretation that must be respected by all", stated the LDK leader.
He warned that if a political agreement is not reached within 34 days, LDK will enter prepared for a new electoral process, with the aim of offering a solution for the country.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Vlora Çitaku, has stated that the PDK respects today's decision of the Constitutional Court.
"We respect the decision of the Constitutional Court as a key institution of the democratic order, as we have always done," Çitaku said briefly, indicating that PDK will convene its governing bodies tomorrow to discuss new developments and next steps.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo, following the decision of the Constitutional Court, has immediately called for a joint meeting of the Presidency and the Parliamentary Group for today at 14:00 PM.
At the March 5 session, the ruling party presented two candidates for president: Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Kollçaku-Mullhaxha, after preliminary talks between Kurti and the two main opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo, for an acceptable name had not borne fruit.
The session was interrupted due to lack of quorum, after being abandoned by opposition parties.
A day after the session was adjourned on March 5, Osmani issued a decree dissolving the Assembly and immediately held a meeting of political parties to discuss the date of early elections.
Following the Constitutional Court's decision that declared President Vjosa Osmani's decree dissolving the Parliament invalid and gave MPs 34 days to elect a new president, leaders and members of the Vetëvendosje Movement immediately reacted on social media.
The Head of the LVV Parliamentary Group, Arbërie Nagavci, emphasized the importance of responsibility and reflection.
"Actions in institutional positions must be carried out with high responsibility and without personal grudges. This moment must serve to engage the people's elected representatives, so that the country does not enter a new crisis and a repeated election cycle," she said.
Nagavci said that in the coming days, we must all commit to electing the President and avoiding another round of elections, which are unnecessary and unfair.
There was also a reaction from the Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, who emphasized respecting the election results.
"The country should not go to elections just because the opposition parties don't like the result the people gave them. The decree was in violation of the Constitution!", he said.
Meanwhile, Egnesa Vitia, advisor to President Vjosa Osmani, reacted immediately after the publication of the Constitutional Court's verdict regarding the president's case and Osmani's decree dissolving the Kosovo Assembly.
Vitia emphasized that the election of the President must be held no later than 30 days before the end of the current president's term.
"So, as the President has said, the election of the President must take place no later than thirty (30) days before the end of the current President's term. This deadline is set out in paragraph 2 of Article 86 of the Constitution of Kosovo," she wrote.
This stance comes after the Constitutional Court's decision that declared the decree dissolving the Assembly invalid and emphasized that MPs have 34 days to elect a new president.
