Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that there was not enough time to meet with leaders of opposition parties on the issue of the President, after the Constitutional Court gave 34 days to elect the head of state.
In a press conference after today's Government meeting, Kurti cited the visit to France and the meeting with President Emmanuel Macron as the reason he has not yet begun "internal consultations" for the President.
"First of all, I returned last night from Paris, where we had a very substantive visit and meeting, lasting about two hours, with French President Emanuel Macron," Kurti initially said.
"Therefore, I did not have enough time to conduct internal consultations for the upcoming meetings," he said.
Kurti said he will extend invitations for meetings with the leaders of opposition parties, while emphasizing that “it is not good to have only 80 or 81” MPs, but “around 85.” Regarding the question about the offer and compromise on this issue, Kurti said that those meetings should be expected.
"I will definitely make invitations to meetings for the leaders of the opposition parties so that we can see what are the ways to reach the number of at least 80 MPs, and I reiterate, I believe that it is not good to be only 80 or 81. We need to be around 85, 84 to 86 in order to elect the President there, and for this I will also make invitations and we will also hold meetings, but what offers and demands there will be in those meetings, we must wait for those meetings to take place," he said.
