Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti writes that the history of Albanian nation-building and statehood is inextricably linked to the figure of Skanderbeg.
"Based on the name "Gjergj" and Christian anthroponymic practices, Fan Noli, as one of his biographers, believed that Skanderbeg was born on May 6, on the day of Saint George. Based on this assumption, May 6 is celebrated as his birthday. Therefore, we remember today, as the God of Arbëria, Gjergj Kastrioti - Skanderbeg, always inspires us throughout the generations," Kurti writes.

In 1405, when Gjon Kastrioti's little son was born, no one could have predicted that he would become one of the most prominent warrior leaders in history and a national hero of the Albanians. He was baptized with the name Gjergj. The surname Kastrioti indicated the noble origin of his family. As long as he lived, he would become known both in the Ottoman Empire and throughout Europe, for his leadership skills and military strategies. The world would know him as Skanderbeg and would remember him for centuries for his bravery, high moral virtues of chivalry and as a great statesman.
