Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti held a virtual meeting with US Congressmen Keith Self, Ritchie Torres, Mike Lawler and George Latimer, who weeks ago presented two important resolutions on Kosovo in the House of Representatives in the United States of America.

According to the OKM, Kurti informed the congressmen that this week the Government has taken the initial step towards establishing the Gendarmerie, "while emphasizing that its purpose is to help fulfill national security goals, such as combating smuggling and terrorism, as well as preserving critical infrastructure. Acting Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that the Gendarmerie is not intended as a replacement for KFOR, but as a close collaborator with it."

The acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, held a virtual meeting with US Congressmen Keith Self, Ritchie Torres, Mike Lawler and George Latimer, who weeks ago presented two important resolutions on Kosovo in the House of Representatives in the United States of America.

In addition to thanking the United States for its continued and unwavering support, Acting Prime Minister Kurti expressed deep gratitude to them for Resolution No. 1246, which supports the aspirations of the Republic of Kosovo to become part of the North Atlantic Alliance, and Resolution No. 1250, which calls for American forces to continue contributing to KFOR.

Acting Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that NATO's presence in Kosovo and Kosovo's membership in NATO are key priorities for the Government, adding that they are essential for security in the region. In this context, he highlighted the congressmen's call for the four non-recognizing member states of the alliance to recognize the Republic of Kosovo, opening the door for our country to join NATO.

Stressing that it would be an extraordinary increase in regional security, but also in the strategic interest of the US and NATO, Acting Prime Minister Kurti reiterated the position of the Government of Kosovo that Bondsteel become a permanent base for the US military.
