Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that efforts are continuing to successfully conclude the process of electing the country's President, saying that the goal is to find a candidate who secures 80 votes in the Assembly.
Kurti made the statement briefly to the media, shortly before entering the meeting with the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku.
"We are continuing our efforts to successfully conclude the challenge of electing the president. We need a candidate who secures 80 votes in the hall. After meeting with PDK leader Bedri Hamza, we are also meeting with the LDK leader. Everything will be agreed upon within a few days," Kurti said.
This is the second meeting between Kurti and Abdixhiku on the same issue, that of discussions on the election of the President. Previously, Kurti also held a meeting with the leader of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, as part of consultations with parliamentary parties.
After the meeting, it was announced that there was no agreement.
Hamza said that the PDK offered a last chance “to avoid new elections.” He said that he demanded that someone proposed by this party be elected president of the country.
Kurti, meanwhile, said after the meeting that "when there is no possibility of a consensual proposal, then we will have party proposals" for president.
