The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has reacted after comments by the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, regarding the acting Chief State Prosecutor, Blerim Isufaj, for whom he said he has changed positions on two occasions.

"They wanted me to go to the Prosecution building at all costs and you know what? Every time they invited me, 20 cameras opened," Kurti said last night on KTV.

Regarding the presence of the media in front of the Prosecutor's Office, the journalist intervened with Kurti, asking him what was wrong, while Kurti in response spoke about Isufaj.

"But what's wrong with Mr. Kurti? Really, what's wrong with him? I don't understand," the journalist said.

"No, there's nothing wrong with you if you think that Blerim Isufaj is a good man - there's nothing wrong with that. Do you understand? He who made the case of Dino Hasanaj a suicide and the case of Ismet Sopa a murder. So, we have a big problem with the Prosecution in Kosovo. Even in this case in Skenderaj, it was slow," Kurti said.

The Special Prosecution Office reacted to this today, calling them untrue and unfounded.

The prosecution, in response, said it reiterates its "commitment to the independent, professional and impartial exercise of its mandate, in the function of the rule of law and the protection of the public interest."

"The Special Prosecution Office and its Chief Prosecutor, Mr. Blerim Isufaj, do not comment on statements of a political nature, especially in cases where they are untrue and not based on facts or official institutional procedures. The SPRK assesses that credibility, institutional and professional integrity are built on work, transparency, accountability and respect for the law, and not on political statements. The Special Prosecution Office and its Chief Prosecutor will continue to exercise their powers independently and in full compliance with the Constitution and laws in force of the Republic of Kosovo," the Prosecution Office's response states.
