The Kremlin on Thursday rejected claims that convicted American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was a secret Russian spy.

Poland plans to investigate Epstein's alleged links to Russian intelligence services following the recent release of millions of Epstein documents.

Asked if Epstein was a Russian agent, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "I can joke about that, but let's not waste time."

The documents show that Epstein repeatedly expressed a desire to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, although there is no evidence that the meeting ever took place.

Peskov told Russian state media earlier this week that the Kremlin had never received a request from Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial.

President Putin's name appears frequently in Epstein's latest series of emails – mostly in news stories about the Russian leader, but also in several of Epstein's attempts to arrange a meeting.

The recent release of documents also reveals Epstein's extensive efforts to bring young women from Russia to Europe and the United States.
