Visar Krasniqi, a non-prosecutor member of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK), spoke on the "Tempus" show on T7 regarding the process of selecting the Chief State Prosecutor and recent developments between the Prosecutorial Council and the Presidency.

He said that the process for selecting the Chief State Prosecutor is an extremely important process, which according to him has been accompanied by much criticism and delay since 2022.

"When we talk about this extremely important process, starting in 2022, public opinion knows many issues, but there are many more that it would be good for us to reveal here tonight," said Krasniqi.

According to him, a few days ago the Prosecutorial Council received a letter from the Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, while in parallel they were also informed of a letter addressed by the Acting Chief State Prosecutor, Besim Qalaj.

"You know, a few days ago, we received a letter from the acting President and at the same time we were informed of a letter addressed to Mr. Qalaj, which the members of the Council in January of this year were not aware of," he said.

Krasniqi said that with this development, according to him, the "ping-pong" between the Prosecutorial Council and the Presidency regarding the process of selecting the Chief State Prosecutor ends.

"And consequently, this is where the ping-pong between the Prosecutorial Council and the President ends, thus marking the end of a lengthy process that has been highly criticized by international partners and civil society," said Krasniqi.

He added that on February 26, the Acting Chief State Prosecutor had addressed a letter to the President in his personal name.

"On February 26, if I remember the date correctly, he addressed a letter to the president in his personal name," he said.

According to Krasniqi, such communication should not have occurred without institutional treatment in the Council.

"The Acting Chief State Prosecutor is an ex officio member of the Council, he is one among equals and consequently he should not have made such communication," said Krasniqi.
