Islam Selmani has reached the semifinals of the European Karate Championship, which is being held in Yerevan, Armenia.
The Kosovar competitor was defeated by Russian karateka, Akhmed Akhmedov, thus ending his hopes of winning the European gold medal, writes "Gazeta Express".
However, the Kosovar karateka still has a chance for a medal, namely for bronze.
Previously, Selmani won three fights, first defeating karatekas Adam Hamill from Scotland and Mario Petre from Romania before triumphing over Greek Christos-Stefanos Xenos, thus reaching the semifinals in the up to 60 kilogram category.
Betim Maliqi will also seek the bronze medal on Saturday in the up to 75 kilogram category after reaching the semifinals yesterday.
Other Kosovar competitors were mostly eliminated earlier in the European Karate Championships. /Express newspaper
