The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) announced the competition for the election of the Chief State Prosecutor at its meeting on Monday.
The announcement of the competition was made with five votes in favor, one against and no abstentions, reports "Oath for Justice".
The competition will be open for 15 working days.
Previously, member Milot Krasniqi took the floor, saying that the process for the Chief State Prosecutor has been deliberately blocked for four years. He asked why it is now being carried out so urgently and why the Council is falling under the influence of other powers.
Krasniqi said that the Council for this process must show integrity and not develop processes under someone's influence.
Further, Krasniqi said that he will pose several questions to the public about who was hindered by the decree of the Chief State Prosecutor, and whether we should necessarily have the Chief Prosecutor that other powers want.
Member Krasniqi said that if there were violations during the previous process for Chief State Prosecutor, then according to him, there were competent means and institutions to respond to the allegations of violations.
Krasniqi further stated that former President Vjosa Osmani took on the role of arbitrator when she did not decree Blerim Isufaj as Chief State Prosecutor, adding that there is no decision but only a notice of non-decree, which he said he does not have as a member of the KPK.
Krasniqi also said that the Council has received a letter from the Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, requesting that the competition be announced, as he said that such an approach is unacceptable and that it is understood as interference in the work of the KPK.
Krasniqi added that if a competition is announced, a bad precedent will be created.
"A bad precedent will be created by not appointing the Chief State Prosecutor just because he doesn't like the name," said Krasniqi.
Meanwhile, the chairman Arian Gashi himself said that he does not get involved in discussions that involve aspects of other powers, adding that this position has been held by an acting head for some time now.
Then, Krasniqi took the floor, saying who is the President to be involved in discussions about when to announce the competition, asking that it not be influenced.
Krasniqi requested that the process be conducted alone, without requesting that anyone else intervene.
Meanwhile, Gashi said that the only position that requires a decree from the President of the state is that of the Chief State Prosecutor and that without a decree from the President we cannot have a Chief State Prosecutor.
Meanwhile, another member, Visar Krasniqi, said that the request not to announce a competition is meaningless, saying that the absence of the Chief State Prosecutor is an obstacle and that there has also been a request from the partners to announce this competition.
Krasniqi said that he understands that someone can be emotional, but that they must continue with the process of giving the system the Chief State Prosecutor, therefore he called for the Council to exercise its duties.
In the end, with five votes in favor, it was voted to announce the competition.
