The Central Election Commission has not yet received any applications for certification of political entities and their candidate lists for the local elections of October 12. But, so far, 54 political entities have started applying, the CEC says. Meanwhile, the registration process for postal voting is continuing, for which 2 applications have been received, most of which have been approved.
The deadline for applications from Political Entities for certification and submission of candidate lists began on June 26 and will last until August 13. The spokesperson for the Central Election Commission, Valmir Elezi, tells Radio Kosova about the course of this process and the number of applications submitted for certification of political entities and their candidate lists.
"To date, we have not received any application from any political entity, which is complete and the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control of Political Entities could begin reviewing the application. Currently, we have 19 political parties; 19 civic initiatives and 16 independent candidates, which have begun the application. The start of the application means the creation of users by the Office to access the CEC electronic platform, to submit their application," said Elezi.
Currently, the CEC is also continuing to register citizens outside of Kosovo to vote by mail. The CEC spokesperson indicates the number of those who have applied to vote for the local elections that will be held on the second Sunday of October.
"As of August 5, 2025, 2,334 applications for registration to vote by mail have been received through the electronic platform https://diaspora.kqz-ks.org, of which 1,663 have been approved, while 671 have been rejected. The period for registration of voters outside Kosovo is currently ongoing, which will end on August 29. During this time, all Kosovo citizens living abroad can apply to register as voters outside Kosovo," said Elezi.
In most rejected cases, applicants have not submitted one of the documents proving their address outside Kosovo, which is necessary, explains Elezi. He further tells Radio Kosova that in the last local elections, in October 2021, the total number of voters registered to vote by mail was more than 15, of whom less than half had voted.
