Prekaz is the center, where many citizens and fellow fighters honor the family of the legendary commander, Adem Jashari, and his family at the Memorial Complex in Prekaz, even on this anniversary of the declaration of Kosovo's independence.
Today, the head of the Association of Families of KLA War Martyrs, Xhavit Jashari, paid homage to this turning point in Kosovo's history. He said that fellow fighters have a lesson that freedom is sustainable when it is won through war and the blood of martyrs.
Jashari from Prekaz Historical congratulated the KLA leaders who are being held in pre-trial detention in The Hague on Kosovo's independence. He hopes that the KLA foursome will be acquitted of the charges by the Special Prosecution, which, as he said, were processed in Serbia.
"They left us a lesson that freedom is sustainable when it is won through war and the blood of witnesses. From this place, I congratulate the leaders of the KLA on this significant day, who are being unjustly held there by a completely biased political court. We hope and believe that the final verdict of the court will not be a political decision and will acquit the leaders of the KLA from this slanderous accusation, from this indictment elaborated in Belgrade. The request of the Special Prosecution makes us suspicious and such a request, as is being seen with the actions of the Special Prosecutor's Office, was received in Belgrade and was transferred to the Special Court in The Hague... The glorious war of the KLA did not belong and does not belong to any political party, it is a value of the people and as such we must preserve, appreciate, respect and give it its deserved place", he said.
Pëllumb Skendaj also came to Prekaz from the Duchy of Vlorë today. He said that he will also participate in the "Justice, not politics" march, which will be held in Pristina in support of the former KLA leaders who are being held in custody in The Hague.
Skendaj said that the blood of the Jashari family is a river for freedom and Albanians.
"Their blood is a river for freedom, for Albanianness and we will never forget it. Baca, together with the older generation of Ismajl Qemali and Isa Boletini, is an eternal monument of Albanianness…Not forgetting their blood, working hard for Albania, Kosovo for Albanianness….To move forward, to flourish and to have the greatest prosperity”, he said.
The declaration of independence of Kosovo took place on 17 February 2008 at 15:39 in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo in Pristina. In an extraordinary meeting attended by 109 out of a total of 120 members of parliament, the Assembly of Kosovo unanimously declared Kosovo an independent, sovereign and democratic state.
