Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has spoken after the Hungarian elections and the victory of Peter Magyar, which ended the dominance of former Prime Minister Viktor Orban's party.

Vučić, who has maintained close political relations with Orbán for years, congratulated the new winner and stressed the importance of continuing good cooperation between the two countries.

"I congratulate Peter Magyar on his election victory. I am convinced that the strong cooperation between Hungary and Serbia will continue to grow. I am also grateful to Viktor Orban for helping to achieve such relations," Vučić wrote on X.

According to some Hungarian media outlets not close to the government, the end of the election campaign was also marked by controversy.

It is claimed that one of the last moves before the elections could have had the opposite effect and further weakened Orban's position.

The case related to the Turkish Stream pipeline, which supplies Russian gas to Hungary through Serbian territory, also attracted attention. After explosives were found in a section of it, Orban and Vučić reacted and launched a public story about the incident.

However, the whole topic quickly died down. Hungarian journalists quickly published an earlier correspondence in which, as they claim, people from Orbán's inner circle warned of the possibility of a staged event on the border with Serbia.

After these publications, the story suddenly disappeared from the public eye, although there had previously been reports of the possible introduction of a state of emergency and even the postponement of the elections.
