Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly told Diogo Jota's wife that he will always be by her side and the family, following the Liverpool star's tragic death.
According to Portuguese media outlet Record, Ronaldo has contacted Rute Cardoso, as well as Jota's parents, to assure them that they have his full support in these difficult moments, Gazeta Express reports.
It is also said that he has informed his family that he will stay away from the joint funeral of Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, so as not to distract from the ceremony itself and the family's grief.
Ronaldo has made it clear to his family that he does not want any attention and that he wants to focus all his attention on honoring his two brothers Diogo and Andre.
Ronaldo's absence from the funeral of his two brothers has caused a huge reaction in Portugal. As the captain and most capped player in the history of the national team, he was expected to travel to Gondomar, near Porto, to attend the tributes on Friday and the funeral mass on Saturday morning, alongside his national team and Liverpool teammates.
But the 40-year-old failed to attend either ceremony. Meanwhile, a leading Mallorcan newspaper reported that Ronaldo was on holiday on the island, where he was spotted at two expensive locations aboard his £5.5 million luxury yacht, the Azimut Grande 88.
