Much of the country was awakened at around 03am this morning by a brief blast of sirens and a telephone alert warning of a "significant threat" - with people being advised to stay close to a shelter.
Israel's emergency services say they are mobilizing blood services across the country, while some hospitals say they are releasing patients who are well enough to go home.
In the West Bank, a lockdown has been imposed in all Palestinian cities until further notice.
All this with the Israeli military warning that 100 Iranian drones are on their way to Israel.
