Iranian authorities have arrested 500 people accused of transmitting information to the country's enemies, the head of the Islamic Republic's police force, Ahmadreza Radan, announced.
According to him, about half of the cases are related to serious incidents, "including people who provided information about hitting targets and others who filmed the attack sites and sent the videos," Reuters reported. He did not give details on when the arrests were made.
Earlier, Iranian media reported dozens of other arrests in different regions of the country. In northwest Iran, the semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that 20 people were arrested after the provincial prosecutor's office accused them of sending information on the location of Iranian military and security facilities to Israel, Panorama reported.
Meanwhile, in northeastern Iran, an area that has remained relatively untouched by airstrikes, Tasnim reported 10 more arrests, with some of the suspects accused of gathering information on sensitive sites.
