Iran has declared that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is now possible, following the halting of the US military operation "Project Freedom".
According to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy, "new procedures" for navigation have been put in place, although no concrete details were given.
This is Tehran's first reaction after the US suspended the operation launched just days ago, which aimed to escort commercial ships in this vital sea route. The mission was suspended after progress in peace talks, reports CNN.
Iranian authorities thanked captains and shipping companies in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman for their cooperation, stressing that the crossing must be carried out in accordance with Iran's regulations.
Iran continues to claim sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and has warned that it may impose tariffs on shipping, an idea that has been criticized by many world leaders as a violation of international maritime law.
