Iran's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, has suggested that countries are actively trying to reduce tensions in the ongoing conflict across the Middle East.
"Some countries have begun mediation efforts," Pezeshkian said.
"Let us be clear: we are committed to lasting peace in the region, but we do not hesitate to defend the dignity and sovereignty of our nation," he added.
"Mediation should be directed at those who underestimated the Iranian people and ignited this conflict," the Iranian president continued.
Pezeshkian is part of the three-person ruling council formed to govern Iran on an interim basis immediately after the death of the supreme leader last Saturday.
Separately, about 50 Israeli warplanes have struck an underground bunker built for Iran's supreme leader a short time ago, his military said.
The Israeli Defense Forces said the operation was carried out in central Tehran this morning, with the bunker located beneath the Iranian regime's leadership compound.
Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in the first US-Israeli strikes last Saturday. /Telegraph
