Inter president Beppe Marotta believes Alessandro Bastoni has been the subject of "excessive media exposure" and hit back at Juventus, recalling a "clear" simulation of Juan Cuadrado in 2021 that, according to him, helped the Bianconeri secure the Champions League.

The controversial situation surrounding Inter – Juventus and the red card for Pierre Kalulu continues.

Marotta spoke before a Serie A meeting in Milan, stressing that Bastoni is facing a "public lynching" that goes beyond what actually happened.

"He is a young man who represents a value for our national team, so it is unfair to question his participation. Who does not make mistakes? Since the '50s there have been famous players for such actions. It is a common episode, not an extraordinary one," he said.

Marotta recalled that last season Inter lost the title by one point, after a confirmed error in Inter – Roma, but the club did not protest.

According to him, this season Inter has only intervened after a penalty given in Napoli - Inter that was later deemed unfair.

Responding to Juventus' reaction, he recalled an episode from 2021.

"I want to remember Juventus - Inter and a penalty awarded despite a clear simulation by Cuadrado. Then the referee and the technical bodies confirmed it. With that victory Juventus qualified for the Champions League, which is worth 60-70 million euros."

Marotta admitted that Bastoni's simulation against Juventus does not comply with the principles of fair play and called for stronger sanctions, especially financial ones.

He stressed the need for dialogue between clubs, referees and the federation to increase knowledge of the rules.

Juventus director Giorgio Chiellini had criticised the refereeing after the match, while coach Luciano Spalletti did not speak publicly.

Marotta, however, spoke ironically about Chiellini:

"It was the minimum to greet him, as he was one of my players. Today he is a new director and without much experience, but I dare not give him advice."/Express newspaper/
