Prime Minister Albin Kurti mentioned the issue of integrating the health and education systems into Kosovo's legal framework after yesterday's meeting with the EU's envoy for dialogue, Peter Sorensen, whom he hosted in Pristina.

He said that "the Government of the Republic of Kosovo has underlined the importance of fully incorporating the education and health systems in Serb-majority municipalities within the legal framework of the Republic of Kosovo."

"This legalization in practice will translate not only into full implementation of the law throughout the Republic of Kosovo, but also into better quality of these services, more funding, more presence and all this means more security for citizens who consume the same services. So the final goal of incorporation is not the reduction of any rights, but their strengthening. Consequently, no citizen of the Republic of Kosovo has the slightest reason to fear this incorporation, but to enjoy the benefits that will result from this process", Kurti added.

The Prime Minister pledged that this will be done "in close coordination" with the EU envoy, but also with local Serbs.

"Of course, it is clear to us that the entire legalization process takes time. I also underline that this entire process will be carried out in close coordination with the European Union Special Representative for Dialogue, but also in coordination and continuous consultation with local Serbs. For us, it is important that during the legalization, citizens of the Serbian community believe in the benefits of the process as well as the obligations that stem from the agreements reached in the Brussels dialogue and the legal framework of the Republic of Kosovo," he said.

After Kurti enabled facilities such as residence permits and recognition of documents issued by illegal Serbian structures, Sorensen said that they take into account his commitment to implement these laws, "while simultaneously allowing for the continuity of these services within the legal framework of Kosovo."

"Any process affecting these institutions takes time, must be inclusive and confirmed within the framework of all relevant agreements reached within the EU-facilitated dialogue and other EU and regional agreements," he said at the joint press conference after the meeting.

Sorensen said they have insisted on having "structured consultations throughout the process with representatives of the Kosovo Serb community to seek their support."

"This process must be carried out in close cooperation with me as the EU Special Representative for the Dialogue," he stressed.
