FIFA President Gianni Infantino has commented on the high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup final, making a joke that has made the rounds in the media.
"If some people put up tickets for the final for sale at a price of 2 million dollars on the secondary market, that doesn't mean those tickets actually cost 2 million," he stressed during a conference in Beverly Hills, California, according to "Gazeta Express".
"And secondly, it doesn't mean at all that anyone will buy them. But if someone really buys a ticket at that price, I will personally deliver them a hot dog and a Coca-Cola to make sure they have a great evening," added the FIFA number one in ironic tones.
Infantino also addressed the issue of prices, explaining that they are related to the American market and the extraordinary demand for this event.
"We must take the market into account: we are in a country where the entertainment industry is the most developed in the world and we must apply market prices," he declared.
Infantino added that in the United States, reselling tickets is allowed and, if FIFA were to sell them at lower prices, they would still end up on the secondary market at much higher values, often more than double.
Interest in the 2026 World Cup is extraordinary, with over 500 million ticket requests so far, while all 104 matches are expected to be sold out. /Express newspaper
