Driving without a driver's license is a criminal offense and according to the law, upon order of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has the right to seize the vehicle. Driving without a license is considered to be the case when the driver has never taken the exam, when his license has been permanently revoked or when he drives the vehicle while he has a temporary ban. In a little over two weeks, namely since the start of the "Safe City" project, the police have seized a total of 90 vehicles nationwide.
In the period from February 1 to 16, upon instruction from the public prosecutor, the largest number of vehicles was confiscated in the territory of the Tetovo Police Station (14 vehicles), followed by the Veles Police Station (13), the Bitola Police Station (12), as well as 11 vehicles in Strumica and Kumanovo.
As explained by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the vehicles are currently stored at police stations, while further procedures are under the jurisdiction of the prosecution and the court. Meanwhile, the latest data shows that last week there was a decrease in the number of traffic violations recorded by the "Safe City" system.
