The exclusionary language of the President of the Constitutional Court, Darko Kostadinovski, is not just a mistake, but a direct attack on the multiethnic order of the country. When the defender of the Constitution turns into a spokesman for nationalism, his removal remains the only way to save the reform of the judiciary.

Full post by MP Ilir Hasani:

The anti-Albanian stances expressed today in the session by the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of North Macedonia – Mr. Kostadinovski, are to be condemned, not just criticized.

His statements and approach clearly showed an exclusionary and nationalist spirit that directly contradicts the role that a President of the Constitutional Court should have – protecting the constitutionality, equality and rights of all citizens. The very name of this institution – Constitutional Court – implies the protection of the constitutional order for all citizens and for all peoples that make up this state, not just for one people or one language.

Albanian judges in this institution should raise their voices and, if necessary, even file procedures for institutional discrimination. Silence in the face of such language only normalizes it.

Today, we must all speak out, regardless of party. A state that claims to be democratic and multiethnic cannot tolerate approaches that reduce the constitutional order to a monoethnic perspective.

With today's stances, he proved that he is not acting as a defender of the country's constitutionality and legal order, but as a figure who, with nationalist rhetoric, undermines the very foundations of the state and coexistence.

If today we are talking about serious reforms in the judiciary, then these reforms must start right from the top of the institutions. A President of the Constitutional Court who displays such approaches cannot be a guarantor of constitutional order and equality. If there is a will for real reform in justice, then he should be the first to leave this position.

If VALEN chooses to remain silent – let them remain silent.

We have an obligation to raise our voices, because silence in the face of injustice is complicity.
