Former Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué has recalled the story of his acquaintance with Colombian singer Shakira, revealing that it all started with a simple message related to the weather.
In a recently made public confession, Piqué revealed that the first contact between them came during preparations for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where Shakira performed the tournament's official song, "Waka Waka."
"I asked him about the weather, because we were going to South Africa and I wanted to know what the temperature was there," he recalled, adding that the conversation between them continued and created a special bond.
According to Piqué, their communication became daily and he promised the singer that he would make it to the World Cup final just to meet her again. "I told her that we would win the World Cup, because that's the only way I could see her again at the final ceremony," he said.
The love story between Piqué and Shakira became one of the most talked-about relationships in the world of sports and entertainment for years. The couple stayed together for more than a decade and became parents to two sons, before parting ways in 2022.
