The Human Rights Watch report on media freedom in Kosovo highlights that journalists have faced threats and obstacles in their work. The report also highlights that between January and September, the Kosovo Journalists Association recorded 54 incidents against journalists, writes Gazeta Express.
It also notes that these incidents include a physical assault, a death threat and 15 cases of harassment.

Journalists continued to face threats and obstacles to their work. Between January and September, the Kosovo Journalists Association recorded 54 incidents against journalists, including one physical attack, one death threat, and 15 cases of harassment, hate speech, or defamatory campaigns, mostly by political figures. the report says.
Furthermore, it is also noted that Reporters Without Borders has pointed out ''the increase in political interference, defamation campaigns, limited access to information''.
"Reporters Without Borders (RSF) ranked Kosovo 99th out of 180 countries in its 2025 Press Freedom Index, down 24 places from last year, making it the lowest ranking in the EU-Balkans region. RSF noted increased political interference, smear campaigns, limited access to information, abusive regulation and weak protection of journalists," the report said.
Finally, regarding media freedom, HRW recalls how the security of the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, physically obstructed T7 journalist Genc Godanci as he tried to ask Kurti questions.
"In February, Prime Minister Albin Kurti's security physically obstructed T7 journalist Genc Godanci as he attempted to ask Kurti about RSF's Media Freedom Index," the report states.
