Today, starting at 09:30, a court hearing will be held at the Basic Court in Pristina against the defendants in the case of throwing tear gas in the premises of the Kosovo Assembly.
Defendants in this case are former MPs Albulena Haxhiu, Donika Kadaj and Pal Lekaj, who face charges related to an incident that occurred while they were serving as MPs in the Kosovo Assembly.
They are accused of having introduced tear gas canisters into the Kosovo Assembly in February 2016 – committing the criminal offense of "unlicensed possession of weapons".
The Basic Court in Pristina on May 18, 2021, due to lack of evidence, acquitted the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, Pal Lekaj, Donika Kadaj-Bujupi, and Besa Baftiu of charges of illegal possession of weapons, on the charge of possessing tear gas in the Kosovo Assembly.
However, the Basic Prosecution Office in Pristina filed an appeal against this ruling, where in the session held on October 6, 2022, this Prosecution Office requested the case be retried.
Then, the Court of Appeal on October 14, 2022, made a decision by which it approved the appeal of the Basic Prosecution in Pristina and overturned the judgment of the Basic Court of Pristina, returning the case to a retrial.
The hearing is expected to take place in the presence of the parties and defense representatives.
