The Democratic Party of Kosovo has announced that its leader, Bedri Hamza, visited the Prekazi family in Pristina, where they talked about the economic situation in the country, as well as the increase in prices.

PDK reports that Hamza emphasized that the standard of living has deteriorated significantly recently, based on the latest statistical data.

'' "The increase in prices is very worrying. Inflation in March alone has reached 6.7% compared to the previous year. When we look at it in a longer period, many products have become 50, 60 to 100 percent more expensive. Meanwhile, incomes in the private and public sectors have not been able to keep up with this increase, making life much more difficult for citizens," said Hamza, according to Gazeta Express.

Pristina, April 16, 2026 - The Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, visited the Prekazi family in Pristina, with whom he discussed the economic challenges that Kosovar families are facing, as a result of the continuous increase in prices and the cost of living.

During the visit, Mayor Hamza emphasized that the standard of living has deteriorated significantly recently, based on the latest statistical data.

"The increase in prices is very worrying. Inflation in March alone has reached 6.7% compared to the previous year. When we look at it in a longer period, many products have become 50, 60 to 100 percent more expensive. Meanwhile, incomes in the private and public sectors have not been able to keep up with this increase, making life much more difficult for citizens," said Hamza.

Head of household Afrim Prekazi said that his family's challenges are the same as those of most citizens.

"Heating, electricity, water and many other expenses have increased by 100%. For a family with one employee, these are unaffordable. I retire in three months, while my wife in a year, and our biggest concern is how we will cope with this situation with pensions and the cost of living," he stressed.

The lady of the house, Valbona Shala Prekazi, also raised concerns about meeting daily expenses.

"We who deal with home maintenance feel the price increase directly. The salaries we have, with minimal increases, do not cover daily life," she said.

Mayor Hamza emphasized that the increase in energy and fuel prices has a ripple effect on the entire economy, while also addressing institutional responsibility for the current situation.

"When energy and oil prices rise, all other prices increase. But unfortunately, even when oil prices fall, product prices do not decrease. Many citizens today are forced to take out loans or overdrafts just to make ends meet. Families are bearing the brunt of this crisis and they need policies that protect them. Our citizens deserve a more dignified life," he said.

In the end, Hamza expressed optimism that the situation can be improved through appropriate policies and sincere institutional commitment.

"If we listen to citizens and work with dedication, we can build a better Kosovo for everyone," Hamza concluded.

While the head of the family, Prekazi, added: "This country can only move forward with wise people and right decisions."
