The situation between Viktor Gyökeres and Sporting CP is getting even more tense. The Swedish striker has failed to show up for the team's pre-season training camp again, fuelling speculation of a possible move to Arsenal.
Sporting president Frederico Varandas has reacted with a harsh statement to the player's behavior and negotiations with the London club.
"If they don't want to pay the real market value for Viktor, fine... here at Sporting we are very comfortable with the idea of Gyökeres staying for the next three years," Varandas said.
He added that the player's strategy is only making it more difficult for him to leave: "Nobody here is above the interests of the club, whoever they are. This approach is only complicating the situation for the player."
The Sporting president warned that everything will be resolved with the closing of the transfer window: "We are very calm, everything will end with a hefty fine and an apology to the group."
At the moment, Gyökeres seems determined to leave, but Sporting has no intention of tolerating any conditions that do not align with the club's interests.
