Tech giant Google has unexpectedly confirmed that a new Android phone will be released this month.

In a somewhat surprising move, Google posted a short promotional video on social media for the Pixel 10a, a model that had not been announced before, confirming it as the successful successor to the Pixel 9a.

The Pixel 10 series was launched in August 2025, and Google typically waits about six months to release an A-series model with the same number after their flagships.

The promotional video also reveals the date when you can pre-order the Pixel 10a: February 18. The video was posted on both the official Made by Google account on X and the official Pixel UK page on Instagram, confirming that users in the UK will be able to buy it from that date.

The Pixel 9a was delayed last year and didn't hit stores until April, meaning it was only on the market for 10 months before it was replaced. That might explain why the Pixel 10a looks almost identical to the 9a in early renders.

Official specs, pricing, and reviews will confirm whether the phone is very similar to the 9a, but the video shows a blue model that could easily be mistaken for last year's device. However, A-series phones usually have new designs every year, so it's a bit disappointing that this one looks like a copycat at first.

One of the Pixel 9a's strengths was the lack of a camera bump for the dual lenses, with just a small bezel around them. According to the Pixel 10a video, Google may have eliminated that as well, resulting in a phone without any camera bump. That would be welcome, as camera modules often add weight and bulk, while the Pixel's main sensors are always excellent.

However, the price of the Pixel 10a is still unknown. There are no other specs visible from the teaser video, but we hope Google doesn't increase the price of the 9a, which had an RRP of £499. Currently, the 9a regularly sells for £349, a better price for users looking for an affordable Android.

We'll have to wait for the official announcement on February 18th to decide if the Pixel 10a is worth the extra expense. /GazetaExpress/
