If you use Gmail, your email is getting a lot smarter.

Google has confirmed a major update that aims to make sending emails faster and less tedious, as well as help billions of users better manage their overflowing inboxes and find old emails with ease.

Google describes this update as a new experience that will “transform your inbox into a more useful, personalized, and tailored command center for you.”

This upgrade will initially launch in the US, with other regions following in the coming months. When it arrives in the UK, users will see three key features:

1. AI Overviews:

This feature allows users to search emails by asking plain-language questions. For example, you could ask, “Who was the plumber who gave me a quote for my bathroom remodel last year?” Gmail will not only find relevant emails, but it will also summarize the most important information. Smart summaries can also condense long email conversations into clear, concise bullet points, saving you time.

2. Writing help:

New smart reply features and composition tools help users write and improve emails more easily, including correcting typos. For example, when organizing a family event, Suggested Replies can instantly suggest a response that matches your tone and writing style.

3. Proofread (Advanced Proofreading):

This paid feature provides suggestions for the grammar, tone, and style of emails before you send them. The Help Me Write and Suggested Replies features will be free for everyone, while Proofread will be available only to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

The update also brings smart inbox filters, which help manage email overload by prioritizing important messages and providing an overview of tasks and deadlines.

Another new feature, “Catch me up,” provides a summary of important life updates found in Gmail, such as upcoming reservations, orders, purchases, or canceled or postponed events.

According to Google: “Today, 3 billion users rely on Gmail to communicate and get things done. AI has played a big role in that – from Smart Replies to intelligent spam protection. But email has evolved significantly since Gmail launched in 2004. With inboxes more crowded than ever, managing information is just as important as managing messages. That’s why we’re taking Gmail into the Gemini era, turning it into a personal, proactive assistant for your inbox.” /GazetaExpress/
