Germany will continue border controls for another six months after March 15, when they were supposed to end.
This is due to the current security situation, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated in the Monday (16.02.2026) issue of the newspaper "Bild", albinfo reports.
According to reports, the new notification is also being sent to the European Commission, the newspaper reported, citing sources within Chancellor Friedrich Merz's government.
"We are extending border controls with our neighboring countries - border controls are an element of our reorganization of migration policy in Germany," Dobrindt declared.
