The blockade of the Kosovo Parliament has begun to become a topic in the world media.
The German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau wrote about the unsuccessful efforts of the Assembly.
The article written by Thomas Roser emphasizes that the blame lies partly with the incumbent prime minister and leader of Vetëvendoja, Albin Kurti.
Further in this article, the donkey protest organized a few days ago by lawyer Arianit Koci is also mentioned.
"People are being treated like donkeys by their representatives," Koci explained, Klanksova reports.
And it seems that the 50th attempt to constitute the Assembly is close, which is expected to take place next Sunday.
The German author further mentions the fact that Kurti is not seen as willing to compromise.
The newspaper in question also mentioned the consequences of the blockade one by one.
"The consequence of the deadlock: While inflation rose to 4.3 percent in June, the highest level in two years, no legislation has been passed, no international agreements have been ratified, no funds have been approved and no vacant leadership positions in state institutions have been filled for more than half a year," the Frankfurter Rundschau article reads.
“In the February 9 parliamentary elections, the left-wing populist Vetëvendosje (VV) party led by outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti emerged as the strongest party with around 42 percent of the vote, but lost an absolute majority. The opposition considers VV’s nominated candidate and former Justice Minister Albulena Haxhiu unsuitable for the position due to her polarizing stance and is pushing forward an alternative proposal.
However, current Prime Minister Kurti is neither seen as particularly willing to compromise nor as a team player.
Although Haxhiu has consistently failed to secure the required majority of 61 votes in six previous election attempts, VV has so far made no attempt to replace its candidate.
The Constitutional Court of Kosovo has set a deadline of July 28 for members of parliament to fulfill their term.
However, to dissolve parliament for early elections, it must first be constituted.
Today, starting at 11:00, the 47th session in a row will be held in an attempt to constitute the Parliament of Kosovo.
