Former Inter defender Fabio Macellari has been sentenced to eight months in prison and a fine of 1,800 euros on drug trafficking charges.
The sentence was handed down by the Piacenza court following an investigation into drug trafficking launched in 2019 by the Carabinieri of Bobbio.
Macellari, who played in Serie A for Lecce, Cagliari, Inter Milan and Bologna during the late 1990s and early 2000s, was convicted of drug trafficking, while being acquitted of two other charges.

The 50-year-old former player admitted to using cocaine in the past, but categorically denied selling narcotics:
“I used it and harmed myself, but I never allowed myself to sell,” Macellari said during the hearing.
After the conviction, he was sent back to the Novate prison in Piacenza, where he was already serving a five-year prison sentence for his previous criminal offenses.
During the hearing, Macellari made spontaneous statements, emphasizing that he had never sold drugs.
His defense, represented by lawyer Monica Giuppi, argued that the preliminary investigation did not reveal evidence of drug sales, stressing that the purchase was related to a past addiction that he had already overcome.
An appeal against this sentence is pending, and will be heard later in the appeals court.
