Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is set to play a decisive role in the club's future in the coming weeks. Last year, he announced that the club was considering a change to its operating model, and at the upcoming General Assembly, Perez will present a proposal to the club's members.
The General Assembly will be held on November 22, during which members will vote on routine matters, such as approving the annual accounts and budgets for the coming year. After that, Perez will explain the change in model that he has been considering for 18 months.
According to Sports world, there are divisions within Real Madrid's board of directors on the issue. Perez and his advisor Anas Laghrari - who played a key role in the creation of the Super League - are in favour of a model that would split the club into two units: one dealing with football and another that would operate as an independent commercial business.
A significant portion of the board, including the president's brother, Enrique Perez, and the general manager, José Ángel Sánchez, are against the idea. It is said that lawyer José Luis del Valle, another trusted advisor to Perez and secretary of his construction company, is also against the idea. ACS, is advising him not to take this step. Although Perez has not backed down from the idea, del Valle's opinion could influence his final decision.
The idea of splitting Real Madrid into two entities has been discussed more often than any other, but it is still unclear what concrete proposal Perez will put to the referendum. Another possibility is selling 49% of Real Madrid to private investors, leaving the club's members as the majority shareholders - or potentially making the Real Madrid Foundation the main shareholder.
Any decision to be made will require the approval of the club members by vote./Express newspaper/
