At least 62 people have died in Kenya over the past week after torrential rains caused flooding. The heavy rainfall has caused flooding unseen in years.
Rivers have burst their banks, flooding homes and damaging roads, power lines and water. The Interior Ministry warned that various parts of the country were continuing to experience torrential rains, increasing the risk of flooding.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to move to safer places and more than 2,000 people have been forced to flee their homes to seek shelter. Police say search and rescue operations are continuing after torrential rain and devastating floods hit parts of the country.
President William Ruto said emergency food supplies and medical aid were being delivered to those affected. More than 100 people have died in Ethiopia after floods and landslides hit the south of the country. Many factors contribute to flooding, but a warming atmosphere caused by climate change is making extreme rainfall more likely.
