At least 11 people have been killed and dozens more injured after a fire engulfed a shopping complex in the city of Andisheh, west of Tehran, Iranian state media reported, Euronews reports, citing Gazeta Express.

The fire broke out on Tuesday in the Arghavan complex, quickly engulfing the multi-storey building with over 250 commercial units and 50 offices. State television footage showed huge flames and thick smoke rising above the area.

Authorities initially reported 41 injured, while it was later confirmed that the number of victims had reached 11. The prosecution has requested a full investigation and has issued an arrest warrant for the builder of the building, while it is suspected that the building's facade helped the fire spread rapidly.

The incident follows several similar disasters in Iran in recent years, including the fire at the Plasco center in Tehran in 2017, which killed 22 people.
