The "Finalissima" match risks being canceled or postponed this month, as the Argentine and Spanish national teams are unable to reach an agreement on the venue.
Initially, the match was scheduled to be played in Doha, but tensions in the region have led organizers to look for another stadium.
Football's governing bodies, UEFA and CONMEBOL, had agreed to move the match to the Bernabéu, with the support of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and Real Madrid.
However, the Argentine Football Federation has rejected this idea.
Its president, Claudio Tapia, told "Cadena SER" that he wants the match to be played at the "Estadio Monumental" in Buenos Aires, because according to him, holding the match in Spain would give the locals an advantage.
"Spain wants the 'Finalissima' to be played in Spain, while I want it to be played at the 'Monumental'," he said.
Three options are currently being discussed: holding the match at the Bernabéu; moving it to another city such as Lisbon or Rome; or postponing the match to another date.
Finding a free stadium at this stage is difficult, so postponement currently seems the most likely option.
According to "Cadena COPE", there is also a feeling within the Spanish Federation that Argentina is not very interested in playing this match.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente wants to play two friendly matches before the World Cup, but it is currently uncertain whether the scheduled match against Egypt will take place.
For this reason, the Spanish federation is looking for two new opponents for the international break in March, in case the "Finalissima" does not take place./Express newspaper/
