Nihal Candan, one of the most popular social media influencers in Turkey, has died at the age of 30 after a long and painful battle with anorexia.
Her death was confirmed on June 21, 2025, after her heart stopped in hospital and doctors' efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. She had dropped to just 23 kilograms, after a dramatic weight loss of nearly 37 kilograms over the past two years.
Born on June 15, 1995 in Mersin, Turkey, Nihal, whose full name was Gulnihal Candan, rose to fame in 2014 through her participation in the fashion television show “Bu Tarz Benim”. She quickly gained popularity thanks to her unique style, media presence and later, her activities as an entrepreneur in the beauty field with the opening of “Nihal Candan Beauty Center”.
On social media, especially Instagram, she managed to gather nearly 900 followers, influencing the fields of fashion, beauty and lifestyle. However, her life took a dark turn in 2023 when she and her sister, Bahar Candan, were arrested on charges of fraud and money laundering, linked to a scheme to illegally sell cars at low prices.
During her time in prison, Nihal experienced a marked deterioration in her mental and physical condition, developing severe anorexia nervosa. This led to her early release in early 2025 due to her life-threatening health condition. A few days before her death, her sister Bahar had made a public appeal, stating that Nihal was unable to cope with the psychological burden of what she had been through, and asked for public help to save her life.
