Former France international Wissam Ben Yedder was found guilty on Wednesday of psychological violence against his estranged wife and ordered to pay a fine of €90,000.
His lawyer, Marie Roumiantseva, said the 35-year-old was not present at the announcement of the verdict and that he will appeal the decision, Gazeta Express reports.
This is Ben Yedder's second conviction in less than a year. In November, he received a two-year suspended prison sentence for sexually assaulting a woman two months earlier.
In 2023, a Spanish court also sentenced him to six months in prison on probation for tax evasion during the period 2016–2019 at Sevilla.
He is also under investigation, along with his brother Sabri, for raping two women in 2023, charges which both deny.
For the psychological violence issue, the French prosecution had requested an eight-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of €10,000.
Instead, the court fined him €90,000 and ordered him to pay another €60,000 – half as compensation to his wife and half for legal costs.
The couple is in the process of divorcing.
Ben Yedder, the former Monaco captain in Ligue 1, is second in the club's all-time top scorers list. He has been without a club since a brief spell this year at Sepahan in Iran.
