People who suffer from seasonal allergies may have strong reasons to avoid certain drinks over the weekend, especially at a time when pollen levels are expected to be high.

According to forecasts, tree pollen concentrations will reach high levels, significantly increasing the risk of symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion and itchy eyes. In these conditions, experts suggest limiting alcohol consumption, as it can worsen allergic reactions.

The main reason is related to the histamine content of many alcoholic beverages. Histamine is a natural substance released by the immune system during allergic reactions and contributes to the intensification of symptoms. Consumption of alcohol, which contains this compound, can further increase discomfort in sensitive people.

According to doctors, this creates a contradiction even for those who use antihistamines, as while the medications aim to reduce the effect of histamine, alcohol can increase it in the body.

Red wine in particular is considered problematic, as it contains higher levels of histamine due to the longer fermentation process. In comparison, distilled spirits such as vodka, gin or white rum have lower levels, while some white wines may be less problematic.

However, specialists emphasize that the safest alternative on days with high pollen levels remains complete avoidance of alcohol, to reduce allergy symptoms as much as possible. /GazetaExpress/
