Professor Enver Hasani, the former president of the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, has been invited by the "Oxford Union", one of the world's most prestigious forums for public discussion and debate, to participate in a panel that has been announced as "historic".

Hasani will be one of the speakers on the panel titled "How does international law react when a people seeks the right to determine their own political future, but finds this request opposed by states, limited by geopolitics, or overtaken by conflict?"

More precisely, Hasani will discuss the issue of Kosovo's independence and its relationship with international law and the Opinion of the International Court of Justice.

The panel will examine the principle of self-determination in a range of contested cases, from Europe to the Middle East and Asia, asking how claims to statehood are recognized, contested or postponed in practice.

The discussion, based on the UN Charter, International Conventions, the doctrine of decolonization, and debates on corrective secession and the laws of armed conflict, aims to explore not only the legal bases of self-determination, but also the deep political issues that arise when law, violence, democracy, and international recognition come into tension.

Founded in 1823, this forum is the largest association at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom and one of the most prestigious in the world.

Many well-known personalities have gone there in the past, from American presidents Reagan, Nixon and Carter, political leaders such as Yasser Arafat, Mary Robinson, Bernie Sanders, as well as political activists such as Malcolm X, Malala, Desmond Tutu and Angela Davis, among others.

Here you will find the Speakers' Brochure.
