Economics professor Shkumbin Misini has accused Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti of not lifting excise and VAT on petroleum products, calling him primarily responsible for the increase in inflation in the country.
Misini said that the decision not to remove these taxes is directly affecting the increase in the cost of living for citizens.
According to him, it is meaningless that more developed countries, which have a higher standard of living, have taken measures to reduce excise taxes, while Kosovo, as one of the poorest countries in Europe, has not followed the same practice.
"The key culprit and responsible for not removing the excise tax is the Prime Minister of Kosovo. The inflation that is happening is related to this decision, because it is not logical that the most developed countries in the world, which have a much higher standard than us, have removed the excise tax and VAT, while Kosovo has not, even though it is among the poorest countries in Europe," Misini said.
He added that, in his opinion, the government's goal is to increase budget revenues, regardless of the impact this has on the daily lives of citizens./teve1
